A room control unit (RCU) is the controller installed in each hotel guest room. It switches and dims the room lighting, drives the door display, reads the key card holder, door contact and occupancy sensors, and connects the switch panels and thermostat over one bus. What the RCU controls in a guest room
- Lighting — 24 V LED circuits dimmed directly by the RCU; non-dimmed 230 V circuits switched by the relay outputs; all controlled socket circuits switched through one AC contactor driven by a relay
- Air conditioning — through a bus thermostat for chilled-water fan coil units (3 fan speeds plus one or two valves), or through an IR repeater for VRF / DX indoor units
- Door display — Make-Up-Room, Do-Not-Disturb, Please-Wait and occupancy status
- Occupancy — key card holder, or cardless detection using the door contact together with PIR sensors
- Scenes and energy saving — lighting scenes editable on site, scheduled events and time-based energy saving from the built-in real-time clock with battery backup
- Curtains and other bus devices — over the same RS485 bus, without using a dimming or relay output
How the controllers differ

How our RCUs are specified for a project
Send us the guest room lighting circuit list (which circuits are dimmed and which are not), the HVAC type, and the panel positions. We return a configuration list, a control logic table and a quotation. Customised switch panels, thermostats, door signs and sensors are supplied from the same system and connect to the RCU over the RS485 bus.
